Your images never leave your device
Image to Text extracts text using Tesseract.js, a WebAssembly build of the Tesseract OCR engine, which runs entirely inside your browser. When you add an image — by drag-and-drop, file picker, or paste — it is read directly from your device's memory and processed there. It is never uploaded to us or to any third party, and we have no server component that could receive it even if we wanted to.
You can verify this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and convert an image. You will not see any outgoing request containing image data.
What does leave your device
The page itself, and the OCR engine's code, are loaded like any website. The first time you select a language other than English, a small language-data file is downloaded from a public content delivery network so the OCR engine can read that language — this file contains only generic character-recognition data, never anything about your image, and your browser caches it after the first download.
No accounts, no tracking of your content
There is no account system, no login, and no server-side record of what you convert. We do not see, store, or have access to your images or the text extracted from them at any point.
Analytics
We may use basic, privacy-respecting site analytics (such as aggregate page-view counts) to understand traffic to this site. This never includes the content of any image you convert or any text it produces.
